Allow weeks to finish between years in calendars

Feature Upgrade · Calendars · Created by Ramzar51

Right now, whenever you create a new calendar, the final week of the year abruptly ends whenever a new year begins, and the new year always begins on the first day of the week. It would be nice to be able to add an option for allowing the last week of the year to continue on to the next year, so that the new year does not always have to start on the first day of the week.

Follow up

As someone else stated on this thread, it works to make the first day of the first year offset. The problem is, this only goes from year 0 onward. Any days I put before day 0 default back to starting the first day of the week, even when I have that the calendar starts from day 0 checked off. Idk if this is a glitch, or if I’m using the tool wrong, or if it’s intended.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! We're declining this because we feel this feature is a bit too niche for the development effort it would require. Generally, weeks in calendars are assumed to always run over to the next month instead of adding new days to the year. The number of days changes in leap years, but letting weeks end before going to the next month is not how leap years work. Calendars will be upgraded in the future, but we don't plan on adding this feature.

Hi there, Im not sure if this alleviates your problem, but you can set a number for "days offset" or some such when you create a calender - that way the very first year starts that many days offseet from 0, and then onwards. For example, if you set the number to 3, the very first year will start at the third day of the week. As long as you have an odd number of days in your year, the starting day of your years should move, and weeks should continue between years :)
