Have an open ended category to link articles to Timelines

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, the timeline system only allows for specific "Articles" to be linked, which does not allow for a broader range of articles (such as conflicts, myths, traditions and so on).

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding a more open range to attach any article to a timeline event, would address this current problem.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Being able to link any article allows users to attach battles, myths, traditions or any other kind of article to their timeline events.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! We'll add a connection with the military conflict template because we agree it's a very history-focused template. Regarding all other templates, we'll be discussing options internally but there are many technical constraints. For future reference, please make sure to be as specific as you want in your suggestions (adding "and so on" to a list of templates doesn't tell us what you want exactly!)   @Blossom Tree Art: to address your question about why this was removed in the past—it was after we implemented another community suggestion. Many Anvilites wanted events to be displayed in the linked articles' sidebar. Due to how our database works, limiting the amount of possible connections was a strict requirement for this feature. We can't have both open connections and events showing in article sidebars.

Why it was ever limited in the first place—I cannot comprehend.

This is something that I've encountered when making timelines, it's kind of annoying because you would think that a military conflict would definitely be on of the things you can link.

Yes it was very annoying when I discovered only generic articles could be directly linked. I was advised to use bbcode, but it's better when the article is actually linked as it shows on the sidebar of the article and everything. Thanks so much for suggesting this! God bless. <3

Great in combination with my suggestion to have events be able to redirect to the relevant article if you end up on its own tiny page. ;)

The weird thing is that they had this and then they removed the feature for some reason.
