What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I have eleven lanes to sort events on my "Master" timeline into. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to know what type of event is in which lane, when you're a few centuries on? Is that event in lane 5 "economic" or "trade"? Is the one in lane 7 from sub-storyline A or sub-storyline C? How will readers/viewers know which types of events I've grouped into which lane?How does this feature request address the current situation?
If I could give each lane a name and a short description, and have a way to display either or both in a "pinned" header on the timeline, I can always see that "biology/medicine" events are in Lane 4. So can my viewers/readers. It would be nice to be able to format the header to either show the description with the name, hide the description, or have the description available as a mouseover pop-up. I don't know that I would use lane formatting (for example, a background color overlay with adjustable transparency, text color or font, etc.) for every lane (too much visual hash) but I might like to highlight one or two lanes with special formatting.What are other uses for this feature request?
This would also allow users to create more useful 'combination' timelines that would link events from different story threads, etc.Follow up
This isn't the same thing as being able to format actual events based on their lane - a suggestion from "Additional customization for timeline groups" (https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/b2c8213c-c396-4d03-b1e5-d61bea95b207/view) - although I like that suggestion, too - it's annoying to have two events in one year in the same lande undifferentiated by aggregation. This is a suggestion to format the timeline ITSELF, with lane information and a lane header.

on 2024-06-01 20:17AGREED!!! My Master Timeline is organized into lanes based on how drastically the event changes events moving forward. Being able to label the lanes would make following my timelines much much easier for my followers.
