Older autosaves being saved in a cache for futureproofing

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The ability to recover articles that are deleted erroneously by either user error, or WA glitches. The suggestion is for there to be a 'cache' of 3~5 save states of articles from previous saves so they can be either referenced or recovered.
This functionality should be easy to implement as there is already an autosave feature, however may prove problematic in matters of available storage space

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Some times glitches (particularly with the Plato editor), or user error ends up deleting large swathes of important

What are other uses for this feature request?

The ability to reference older versions of your work in case of drastic changes, or wish to walk back some changes

Follow up

Heya just notifying - I have talked about this with some developers and was notified that this quite simply is both very difficult to implement, and incredibly costly in terms of save space, as such I would ask everyone to refrain from casting in more votes as this suggestion would be rejected either way.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion and for realizing the complexity of the feature! We're closing this as per the follow-up.   That said, we understand the importance, and a future (far future!) update will include technologies that will help alleviate this issue. The upcoming WYSIWYG editor overhaul coming soon will include a very long ctrl+Z history and will get rid of the Plato glitches (and we're so excited about it! :D)

Some type of version control and a temporary recycle bin would both be incredibly helpful when dealing with forced autosave.

As you said, this could be problematic due to storage space. A compromise could be to store the last save when an article is deleted. There would need to be an option to restored deleted articles. The save files could be purged after a set period of time so it does not build up.
