Historical Event Template Customization

New Feature Addition · Custom article templates (studio) · Created by Pexuson

Note: I'm not sure whether this qualifies as a new feature or a feature enhancement. I'm describing it here as an "enhancement" to Custom Templates; but it could also be construed as a "new feature" for Historical Events. I suppose which framing makes sense depends on how different the implementation of Articles and Historical Events is "under the hood".

What functionality is missing?

Historical Entries are not included within the framework for customizing article templates. I would like to create a custom template based on Historical Entries, so that I can create nicely formatted pages for specific types of historical entries that always have certain types of information.   Example Use Case: I'd like to create a "Population Migration" template as a type of historical entry article, and format it that it will always show which population groups were involved, where they were at the start, when the migration began, where they migrated to, and when they got there.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

If I could create a template for a (subclass of) Historical Entry page, it would make it much easier for me to create, edit, and update my historical entries that use a standard set of attributes that I want to display.   Example Use Case Benefit: If I were able to create a "Migration Event" template, and enter standard details for migrations (e.g. start location, end location) as JSON payload data for each article, then I could change the display of that information in a uniform way across all events of that type simply by updating the template, rather than having to change each historical entry individually.

What are other uses for this feature request?

This will reduce future requests from people who would like to have some specific addition to Historical Events, because they can simply do it themselves.   There is no need for an "is this popular enough to bother?" adjudication process if people can make changes for their own world.
