article-types articles linking multiple-types multiple-article-types

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

In the current WA, when you make an article you both cannot change the article type it is, (a wonderful other thing that would be awesome) and you cannot assign it to more than one type without making a second article (This would be just redundant and time consuming, however could possibly be achieved by tagging as both types I suppose).
For example, if a country is also a geographic place, it cannot be made as both.
This is unsatisfying because if you're making a settlement, or any article for that matter, and wish to give it a geographic location, you cannot mark the country as its geographic location, because it doesn't fit the 'type'. This could also be fixed by allowing 'country/org.' articles to be used as geographic locations in the dropdown bar. The same could be said for several other article types. (However if this was done for all article types in the overlaps, it would quickly become too much of a chore, and you'd be digging for a specific article.)

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It would allow for multiple (or maybe just two, I'm not sure the load it would put on the programming side) 'types' to be attached to an article, and thus allow it to be linked in more ways than it currently does.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Not just geographic linking, but could be used for any 'article type' to be crosslinkable. (an item that is also a material, a country that is also a location, a myth/legend that is also a species, document/item, etc.) I understand that this could be a large change and possibly problematic, but it might be nice in some places.

Other thoughts- Yes you can use owning organization to link a settlement to a 'country/organization', but that's not the case/desire for some of the other parts of this thought.
Also to be clear this is not asking for multiple 'types' in the dropdown box on the right once an article has been made, its asking if you can make an article be more than one of the larger categories.

i'm not sure about this. while i can see the usefulness, this might be too complex. perhaps just removing the need for an article to be a certain type in the dropdown might be better.

If possible this would be amazing! It would eliminate the need for two articles about the same thing. It would be great to list one article as primary so it's prompts all show first. Then list another article type as secondary so it's prompts show after. Prompts that are not used would then not show up as normal. Wish I had more points to spend in this vote.

YES, I would absolutely love this. Countries are most often nation-states; nation-states are, by definition, organizations and/or ethnicities that have a geographical territory. This would let me merge so much uselessly duplicated stuff and/or describe things so much more accurately. Best idea I've seen in ages.

Allowing countries to be selectable as geographic locations is a really common request and I, too, would like to see it happen. However, I don't think giving an article two different categories would be feasible. I do think that perhaps separating the CATEGORY of an article with the TEMPLATE could be super helpful. It would allow you to make a country with the organization template, but then categorize it as a geographic location. Or if you made a Generic article and you want it to register as a Material or an Item or something, you could do that.

That would unessesarily complicate WA, and cause a lot of other issues. How would this interact with the prompt fields? In which order would these fields show up? Could you use the fields at all? How would this interact with other features like family trees or diplomacy maps, which rely on data from specific templates?   An alternative suggestion, that would be more feasable and should acomplish something similar would be "Automatic article redirects". So you would create two articles of different types, and make one redirect to the other.

This would increase the complexity of everything by a lot and I don't believe it is really necessary. Just decide what is more important or make two articles.

Rather than making it a type system it should probably simply be tags because the article types are fairly hard coded and offer wildly different prompts.

This would probably require a HUGE amount of coding/recoding, so even if it becomes a popular idea, it's probably not going to happen any time soon. Still, I fully agree with this idea.

I like this, its weird how cities are locations but countries are not. I think it is something that needs to be refined a bit.

Hm. In most cases, I think the distinction that a country or subunit of a country is an organization rather than strictly a location is important. Nevertheless, it makes sense to nest counties within baronies, and baronies within kingdoms, etc.   Personally I think the proper solution is actually to add an entirely separate dropdown for political map nesting, so that the category for "this settlement is within the Howling Mountains" and "This city is in the Barony of Westfall" are two separate dropdowns. Maybe a "governed by" or "claimed by" tag?   Idk what the best answer is, but I do admit the current situation feels unsatisfying.
