statblock creature item background formatting- printer-friendly

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

At present, there is a lot of space between individual elements in the stat block page. For creatures. for items, and other types of stat blocks, this can make it troublesome to use in actual play. If you print a statblock of any type right now and it's even a little bit dense, you run the risk of needing to reduce the size of the document to keep it from being printed on multiple pages. Right now, there is no way to ask the text to be confined to a 'space' on the page so that it can begin wrapping around. In digital form, this results in the need to scroll down. Even the most generously gifted screen sizes for laptops will need to scroll down and up to pan to areas of more involved stat blocks. I propose a type of formatting that resembles the condensed versions seen in printed books for TTRPGs that are easier to read.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

A toggle or drop-down menu with a choice for a more condensed formatting option(s) would allow for ease of viewing a statblock both in print and digitally. It would help prevent printing multiple pages when a stat block has multiple or long elements - and it can be easier to run when in digital form by reducing the need to scroll down and see less of the statblock in digital media..

What are other uses for this feature request?

If some form of condensed stat block can template(s) can be produced, it may allow for more clear presentation and ease of use during actual play. This can be done to benefit more statblock templates than just creature templates. Items can also benefit from a more compact reading/printing format to avoid a wandering eye and losing one's place.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! We understand your usecase, but World Anvil is a digital toolset, which means that anything related to printing will always be very low in our list of priorities. In this case, this is almost impossible for us to do, as statblock templates are created by the community. Accepting this would mean having to constantly be reviewing and adapting new statblocks as they are created or updated, which would result in a very unreliable system.
