The Mentors of Hudalah

Mentors exist in every community across the Kabesh, yet it is those of Hudalah who hold the ultimate authority and respect. The choices they make impact the economy and daily lives of thousands across the savannah, the knowledge they pass on to their students as invaluable and precise as it was in the ages gone of its discovery. Indeed, Hudalah's power and creativity would be nothing without the guidance its mentors have provided over the centuries, even if their motives might not have always been so selfless.

Structure

There is little strict structure to how the mentors work, each one functioning independently in when and who they teach. Other than occasional meetings to discuss local issues that might impact upon Hudalah or the Kabesh as a whole, there are no specific rules that a mentor must follow. Generally, the mentor who trains the juveniles on how to focus their empathic abilities holds the highest respect due to the importance of their duty, although this is not always the case. Certain mentors who teach skills that are regarded as frivolous or a waste of resources, such as perfume making, have less standing among the older, more traditional mentors.

Public Agenda

The mentors do as they always have done; teach each upcoming generation to be able to perform tasks with the finesse and mastery that centuries of perfectly repeated training has allowed. Due to this high level of knowledge, they are rarely challenged by other Kabeshi, resulting in their duties gradually focusing more on their self-interests than that of Hudalah.

Assets

As many mentors come from the older, wealthier families due to their mining of the gemstone caverns, the Hudalan mentors are financially stable enough to preserve the economy of the entire Kabesh, so long as the income of Hudalah itself is not too drastically damaged. They also jointly own a separate house where they can meet to discuss any current issues.

History

The original concept of a mentor was generally any adult that educated the juveniles of the group. Yet, over the centuries, this duty eventually solely fell onto the older, frailer adults who had more time to pass on their experience while they cared for the youngsters. Not until Sensarets began to emigrate into the Kabesh and expand into larger communities, would a group of mentors with specific knowledge be established to teach next generations, as well as deciding on how to handle any greater situations that would impact them all. The Hudalan mentors developed much the same way, although the early origins of their ancestors in the region meant that they were the first to claim the resources that would guarantee their descendants, many of them future mentors, would be the richest in the town.

Technological Level

Technology has not yet developed beyond basic crafting and masonry, Kabesh society so successful at its current state it would be unlikely necessary for it to change much further.

Religion

Sensarets have never held any religion towards a god or higher being, instead the praise they hold towards the knowledge and skills they inherit from their ancestors is near enough treated as a form of worship. The empathic depth of their communication means that more than simply learning from each other, they also receive the same emotions that those in the distant past first experienced. Death in a sense is never final, not so long as there are others to continue passing on their teachings.

Foreign Relations

Outside of the trade routes and connections between the communities of the Kabesh, there is also basic diplomacy outstretched to the more primitive Sensarets of the Ugon Forest. This rarely goes beyond the simple exchange of goods due to the dangers most Kabeshi don't want to risk encountering within the forest.

Legislative Body
Hudalah and even the Kabesh may have a number of traditions and cultural beliefs, but lack any official legislation of any kind. This may seem strange, but due to their empathic connection, there have only ever been the rare case of any conflict between individuals as most Kabeshi are capable of resolving issues peacefully between one another. These rare cases nearly always include a Sensaret with some kind of empathic impairment, meaning that they are less aware of the emotions of others and struggle to communicate their own. This results in a state of societal rejection that ends in the disconnected person eventually leaving town of their own free will.
