Triton
Tritons are ocean-dwelling humanoids, believed to have migrated from the Elemental Plane of Water long ago. The Old Tritonic Empire lasted for many centuries, defending both surface and sea from dangerous monsters of the deep. The imperial tritons managed to build cities underwater, and along the coasts of western Kivosia, eastern Duray, and northern Onunea. Recently, but a few decades ago, the empire fell, its shattered remains batted over by six successor states in a horrible civil war. Despite this, tritons continue to see themselves as the rightful owners of their sea.
Tritons worship only Ennera and Zosoa. They are most common in the aptly named Tritonic Sea, but have spread throughout the Olydan Ocean. Beyond coastal regions, land humanoids tend to know little of tritons, and vice versa. Tritons are able to communicate with underwater beasts, making them skilled at fishing and taming aquatic mounts.

Naming Traditions
Triton surnames depend on status and allegiance; they only indicate family ties if you are a noble. Members of one of the ruling families use the name of the Tritonic realm their family rules. Other high-ranking families, and most bureaucrats, use the suffix -ni after their home realm's name (meaning "ally") while everyone else uses the prefix sa- ("servant") followed by the first syllable of the name. Neutral tritons go by the surname "Sani", meaning that they are no one's ally or servant.
