Changeling

An anomaly of ambiguous origin--possibly mortal magic, celestials, or even divine intervention--gave most members of this once-elven subspecies the ability to shapeshift at will. They spread throughout Duray, easily joining any society disguised as a member of its race.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most changelings are in Duray, but they can be found throughout the world. They originated in the Dessicated Lands.

Naming Traditions

Changelings tend to take on names that best fit their most common form, and will often change names throughout their lifetime.

Beauty Ideals

Physical beauty is irrelevant to a changeling, since they can shift their appearance at will.

Gender Ideals

Changelings usually either don't consider themselves part of any gender, or are gender-fluid, and tend to use the pronouns of their current form's physical sex either way.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Changelings have a unique idea of identity, thinking of their multiple personas like an actor views their characters. Changeling adventurers are often spies or criminals.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Many other races of Duray distrust changelings, fearing that one might be trying to infiltrate them. Those who live near changeling communities tend to be more accepting, however. Qista is one region where open changelings are especially common.
