Session 40: The Chamber of Yeet-Crits

General Summary

With Lumina's Dragoons, the Chosen of the Four Dragons, gathered together in the chamber’s central island, the place soon exploded with movement as a swarm of flaming enemies erupted from the lava and dropped from the ceiling. Holding out their hands and transforming their Stones, they prepared to fend off their attackers with their combined might. Magma Mephits, Fire Snakes, and various elemental guardians (some with fiery spears of light, others with burned obsidian scimitars) descended upon our heroes and a knock-down drag-out soon began.   The flying mephits surrounded the party, spewing gouts of flame from their mouths to scorch the Dragoons. Stan rolled for cover, accidentally landing on a transport stone that yeeted him to a island of stone some fifty feet away. There he summoned up an illusory rock and took aim at an armored fire elemental that overwhelmed Lili as a mephit's magic superheated her weapon, which she was forced to drop to the stone floor. Alatar and Rath stood side by side as a pair of golden fire elementals jabbed their glowing spears of light at them. Rath slashed with his mighty greatsword, and Alatar unleashed a flurry of blows with his staff, throwing in a couple punches and kicks for good measure.    Then Alatar turned into...some kind of chicken? He was soon grabbed up by a fire snake and crushed, returning to his elven form, while Rath sent his smoke shadow zipping through the enemies to draw their attention before he unleashed a few powerful slashes, his shadow belched blinding smoke at the enemies, and Gregg called up a watery sphere to snatch up the other creatures. The shadow was soon struck down and Alatar fell unconscious. Lili moved to aid him, but was impeded by the elementals and unable to reach her fallen comrade, so she cured Rath of some of his wounds before bolstering the party with her protective magic.    Stanwick, hidden behind the illusory rock, continued to pick of enemies, as Gregg, briefly discouraged by ineffectually throwing poison at a mephit to no effect, separated a snake and mephit from the group and sent the watery sphere rolling away. One snake managed to slip away and attempted to bite at Lili, who was engaged with an elemental, and paid it no mind. Rath soon slashed it in two, rushing ahead to drop an elemental that Stan had just shot, and then whirl around to tear a mephit to bits...which promptly exploded in his face. Soon more mephits exploded, Pebbles, was reduced to inanimate rubble by an elemental's spear, and Rath retaliated by holding aloft his shining Gem of Brightness. With the flash of light dazzling the fiery creatures, the disarmed Lili unleashed a thunderous Goblin Punch, devastating the elemental that had accosted her and her stony companion. Soon after, the party made short work of the remaining enemies before pausing to tend to their wounds.    Though Alatar was knocked out in the fight, Lili was able to make it to him before any serious harm came to him. Taking stock of their situation, the group decided to use up some of their healing magic and items, and redistribute some other items, before summoning up the energy to press on to whatever test awaited them ahead in the Fire Dragon Trial.

Notes

  • Using her Bangle of the Azure Magician, Lili Learned Heat Metal after weathering the scalding effects of a magma mephit's magic. She cleared the bangle's stone containing the Entangle spell to make room for this new ability.
