Session 31: The Golden Tower

General Summary

The Dragoons, now numbering five, pressed on. They reached the sixth floor where they found tight corridors that led to a room with a ceiling 20 foot high. There were floating crystal beings, similar to the ones they found previously, busy with some mysterious tasks and ignoring the party. There were more of those strange glass-topped tablet devices like in the previous room affixed to walls and tables. Massive golden crystals floated in the air on the edges of the room with a single, even larger one, in the center. Energy from these crystals and from tubes of golden liquid, was being channeled into the central crystal that radiated light and almost-palpable magic.   Just as the Dragoons wandered in, a shimmering wall of force came into existence in front of them. Four, humanoid crystal guardians with tiny dragon-like constructs on their shoulders inspected the daring adventurers, noticed something abhorrent, and prepared for battle. The crystal figures moved to attack, their dragon constructs vanished before the party’s very eyes, and then suddenly two more crystal guardians appeared behind the party. They were trapped and surrounded.   Most of the party raged into the warfare, fighting for their very life while Rath, affected by some disorienting gas from an invisible dragon fairy, affectionately touched a wall, got dangerously close to the Mysterious Masked Woman who was cowering in the corner, and hugged a giant spider’s fuzzy leg for a sold thirty seconds. Stanwick blasted one of the guardians off a ledge, never to be seen again. Gregg called up waves and spheres of cold seawater to knock the crystal men down. Trent summoned up a pair of giant spiders as previously mentioned before whacking away with his staff and summoning moonbeams to blast his foes. Bud Towers hulked out, stone scales covering his body as he entered a RAGE, cleaving a crystal man in twain with a mighty blow from his axe, Earthheart. Stanwick tapped into the power of his Dragon Stone to see the invisible dragonlings with his Aether Sight and Gregg managed to capture the remaining one in a great ball of water. The battle concluded, the walls of force flickering out of existence, and there were crystal and tiny mechanical parts strewn all about the room. This allowed the group to study the area and Trent found a crystal chest against the wall on the left, opening it to find little blue/grey dart (a Seeker Dart) that his Dragon Stone resonated with, meaning it was possibly imbued with wind magic.   Gregg ran his hand across the paneling of the wall on the right near a collapsed staircase, finding a seam that clued him into a secret compartment! He pushed aside the panel and the wall opened, revealing a recess in the wall. He pressed two switch bricks at the same time. A little wall slid down revealing a tiny pedestal. A grainy, distorted image appeared above the pedestal. It seemed magical, showing a figure that spoke in an archaic form of Common, with influences from the Celestial language that Rath recognized. It appeared they had stumbled upon a recorded message from ages past. Though the message was garbled, the Dragoons could make out some of the words, which were “Golden Spire/Tower. Power of the Heavens. Defense of Arcanum. Reflections. Alignment. Magic...” Very curious.   The team spread out and looked for more hidden locations, though there were none to be found. There was celestial writing scrolling across the strange tablets, but the team was uncertain as to what they meant. The team looked for more clues, but found nothing. Putting everything together, they decided that perhaps this room had something to do with magicks that protected the floating city. With nothing left to investigate in this room full of huge crystals and strange tablets, our heroes found a stairway up and decided to ascend.   They soon found themselves in a beautiful botanical garden, filled with a large assortment of flowers and plant life. There was the cleanest, clearest water running in a gentle stream through the room, with the source being a large statute of what could be the Goddess or one of her celestial messengers. This appeared to be a shrine for healing people. Or maybe a day spa. Maybe both?   They poked around, finding old mortar and pestles, crumbling papers and dried up quills, soft cushions and writing desks and beds and interesting moving sculptures made of baubles suspended on golden thread. Just as the team began to relax, Gregg wandered off to the far end of the room. The light streaming down from the windows by a massive double spiral staircase coalesced into two giant beings of fiery light that barred the party’s exit from this peaceful garden with threatening spears of pure sunlight. After quickly (super quickly) dispatching of the two fiery light creatures, the team decided it was time to mend some of their wounds and move on to whatever strange place the Golden Tower had in store for them.
