Session 20: Dragoons v Board of Magical Education

General Summary

4th of Storm Claw   To the Bloated Cask the group went. They spent the night to recuperate from a day of resting and shopping. Trent returned from an unbelievable adventure of talking to an ogre who had taken a cat as his pet. The tired titans decided to splurge and use their funds to procure aristocratic rooms. Bud Towers ordered for the group, including boiled mutton and barley bread, as well as crabs for Trent who had decided he is now a pescatarian (“IT’S NOT A PHASE”).   5th of Storm Claw   After a long night sleep the group headed over to Arcanum, to enroll and finally meet the headmaster. Traveling to the transfer spring took about four hours, which traveled uneventfully. The day had a slight drizzle, with small patches of clouds surrounding blotting the sky.   When the group got to the top of the hill, Old Hobb was sitting there waiting for the adventurers. Bud Towers handed Old Hobb the application, and the group was escorted onto the teleport spring. The clouds and drizzling rain did not hold over the spring. Instead the area was warmer with direct light from above. As the adventurers got onto the platform, Old Hobb said “good luck boys!”. Old Hobb brought up his staff and the teleportation circle caused the adventurers to warp through time and space to arrive at the center at the teleportation circle in the Arcanum. There was Heff who welcomed the party to the Cavern of Potential. He went on to explain the rules of the caverns and that the party needs to pass through the caverns in three hours to be accepted into the Arcanum. Taking their enhanced form, the party walked in…   In the cave there were paths with multiple directions. There was a blue stone, humming with power. As the party ventured forth into the energy surrounding the blue stone, the roots and vines that surrounded the area coalesced and turned into vegetable monsters. After a brief and fiery fight, all of the monsters lay dead along the ground, but then disappeared, seemingly illusions. The crystal powered down.   Rath noticed a pair of mirrors, one is a small cracked mirror and the other is a small uncracked mirror. Rath grabbed the cracked mirror and as Trent took the uncracked mirror, it disappeared. Continuing on the Cavern of Potential, the troop came to a dead end. They searched the dead end to find a hidden switch or something to help them move forward. Trent’s hand went through the wall, as did Rath. After Bud Towers came back from watering the rocks, he decided to stick his head through one of the strange rock portals. They found that blindly entering or sticking hands or heads through the illusory doors was painful, but Rath realized that using the mirror revealed the correct path and while holding it and walking backwards, you could emerge on the other side of the archway unscathed.   Outside the group met a small boy named Garth. Garth tried very hard to pass the Cavern four times, but had failed every time. After a quick pep-talk from the group, Garth charged forth, likely to his death. The team walked into the next room, saw a blue crystal, and charged. Spore creatures came forth and prepared for battle. After a grueling battle in which Trent was almost rendered unconscious twice, the group emerged victorious. Moving on, the team found two spellcasters who were mouthing words and casting spells. The group chose to ignore them and went into the next section.   When the group came across a choice between right and left, without thought they all went right. Thinking is for wimps. They came upon a pit. Rath was lowered down by Bud Towers. Upon reaching the ground a lasso came careening across the pit. Barely dodging it in time, Rath turned to see what seemed to be a rock goblin. The rock goblin called forth an earth elemental, and the battle was on. Finishing off the crazy earth elemental with a Goblin Punch from hell, the earth elemental broke to rubble. The challenges of the Cavern of Potential still lay ahead of the group.
