Session 17: Dragoonies vs. Maroonies?

General Summary

Kick the tires…   In the temple Lumina’s Dragoons (NOT THE DRAGOONIES) discussed the future course of the group, and after a spirited conversation the Dragoons decided to take a rest, go to the fork, and attempt to find either bandits or monsters.   On their way-out Blu, on behalf of Bud Towers (The Hero Who Wouldn’t Talk To Eva), went up to talk to Eva. She stopped her singing and conversed with Blu. Trent walked up and asked how she was. Eva spoke about her training. She mentioned that she was training to be a priest and was learning the harp. Trent asked about the monsters and bandits, to which Eva said she heard rumors. Trent asked Eva to bless the group before heading into combat. She played for the Dragoons (one use protection from good and evil), and they took their leave.   The adventurers walked at a fast pace towards the last known location of the bandits. Prepared for anything and hoping for nothing, they listened, watched, tensed and readied themselves for what they knew to be an oncoming, gruesome slaughter. They heard rustling in the tree line. A war cry from the woods and the chattering of eager assailants echoed through the forest. A wagon was in front of them, alight. The bandits made for the adventures. They were wearing maroon cloaks and kerchiefs. From the other wagon there were screams of help. Someone appeared to be crushed underneath the wagon.   After an epicly one-sided battle, Bud Towers performed the time-honored tradition of rolling the bodies. The only living bandit was tied to the back of the wagon and Lumina's Dragoons began to clean up after the slaughter. Rath began speaking to the victims of the bandit attack (a merchant, his young son, and a guard) to console them and ensure that they were OK. Bud Towers realized that the weapons that were recovered from the Maroon Marauders were adamantine weapons. This raised the question of who these ruffians were and why they were so well equipped, but time for investigation was short with the entrance exam into the academy looming.   Dragoons decided to gift the cart and the horses to the family that they had just saved. The family’s cart was destroyed in the fight and was likely the most expensive possessions in their life, so the Dragoons sought to reduce their burden. The smoke elemental and Sir Percival the Goat were sent to protect the family on the road home. Bud also asked them to deliver a note to Yngis and requested they send the necklace he ordered back with Percival.   Trent and Bud successfully interrogated the last bandit. He spoke of a hill half a mile up the road where the bandits had a stronghold. They took the location from a band of orcs (!). It used to be an orc village who got into a fight with treants (!). The bandits came in after the fight and mopped up the remainder. He also said there were about 10-20 more bandits and that they had captives.   The Dragoons knew they had to liberate the captives, so they rested for an hour. Trent looked around for a ninja-certified animal. Finding an owl, he began conversing with the wild creature named Winston. He asked Winston if he would take a trip to look at the area where the treants used to live in a horseshoe canyon to see how many people were there. Bud Towers reached his mind into Winston’s and shared in his senses. Budston flew forth over the area that the encampment was supposed to be located. As Budston entered the area of the horseshoe plateau and beheld the place that was once a village of orcs. Among the residences were a few guard towers, and a few possible locations where the prisoners might be. Treants, orcs, and humans were among the prisoners. There were strange, four-legged lizards being used as guard dogs. The team planned…and waited….
