Session 14: Off to The Floating City

General Summary

After wasting an absurd amount of time shopping and getting their affairs in order, the group acquired all of their due purchases and headed to the jobs board in order to assess their next move.   Available to Lumina’s Dragoons were the jobs found here
A brief discussion ensued and the group decided to accept the quests of the merchant and wizard (both of which wished to procure safe passage along our path) and a few smaller quests to help the local folk. Trent led the party towards the district where the merchant, Jayco Girswiff - Merchant (Inks and Dyes), resides. Soft music and the wonderful smells of fresh sea air impregnated the air. Patrons and merchants were going about their routine of purchasing and selling goods and services. Among them was Jayco Girswiff. Bud Towers, The Hero of Our Time, began speaking with the merchant, making a worthy attempt to sell the Dragoons as competent adventurers. Jayco asked for when the group was leaving, and Bud responded it would be upon the next day. A logistical conversation ensued, with the most important question, the name of the horse (Kurtis), being specifically inquired about. Trent bartered some of our commission for rations for the travel. After being rejected, it was decided we would get our own supplies.   Our contract established, we journeyed to the wizard, Katrin Myles - Magic Academy Prefect, to establish our second. Bud Towers grabbed the quest card and announced loudly “is there a Katrin here?” This caught the attention of Katrin Myles, a mousy, chunky girl of the age of about 17 who was deep in thought, reading a book. Bud introduced us as “Lumina’s Dragoons”, to which Katrin asked where our horses were. Trent got a look in his eye and was about to wild shape into a horse, when his faithful weapon gave him the idea that this would be unwise. A friendly conversation about Vendra and how she was planning to get to the floating city, and a contract was formed.   Two successful contracts being forged; the Dragoons went forth to find Raina Gravven (also see Storr Gravven - little girl / adoptive father, Stablemaster) who had lost her cat. While moving through the military ward, Bud Tower’s interest was piqued. He drooled over men drilling other men…in warfare. He was enamored by their long swords and deep commitment to physical training. He stood amazed at the men wrestling each other in the pits of mud. Bud Towers noticed two guards and decided to inquire about Gytha Rufflin - Guard Captain, who was the contact for the quests for the bandits and monsters. Rath walked up and asked if she was in, the guard stated she was inside, and the Dragoons walked in. After a ***perfect*** introduction by Rath, she formed a contract. Trent inquired about the details of the labor we were meant to fulfill. Bandits have been robbing travelers, north to of the Goddess Shrine. Some people had survived to tell the tale.   Moving onto the stables to meet with “catgirl” (Raina Gravven), the party smelled tobacco. Storr Gravven was there chewing tobacco and bundling bails of hay. Trent approached Storr and offered to find the cat gratis. Blu inquired about horses and Storr informed the group that in this area they had waypoint horses. These horses move from one point to another as a job and are then used at that point as a waypoint horse. After securing equitable equine conveyance Trent went to go and speak with Raina, the young beastfolk girl who was the one who lost the cat. Trent pinky-swore, which binds your souls, that we would return the black cat with an orange patch. The party split up (“splite-ing up” according to Bud). Trent and Bud tried to speak with animals to acquire information about the cat. During this time Rath and Blu investigated the area and found a path that may or may not have been the path little Patches took when it disappeared. After an interesting discussion about Good Berry and just how good it is (spoilers: very), the crew went to sleep.   Bud Towers barely slept through the night. He rose before the sun and ran to the Guild Hall. There he waited impatiently for the doors to open. His anticipation had him pacing back and forth, like a man who drank too much at a frat house with only one bathroom during a huge party and all the ladies are in a long line waiting to get into the bathroom to “freshen up” even though they just got there and they are really just trying to look their best because the captain of the football team just broke up with his girlfriend because she got drunk last week and cheated on him with the captain of the bowling team because his father is the CEO of a huge IT company and the captain of the football team told his best friend during Chem 101 that he would hook up with “some chick” at this party to get back at his ex girlfriend so every girl who thinks they even have some chance with him is there trying to get into the bathroom to look at the mirror and correct any minor fault they might find with their appearance but what they do not know is that the captain of the football team is already balls deep in the teachers assistant from Chem 101 who told him she would give him an “A” if he could give her an “O”. Bud looks like that guy.   Trent went to go an speak with the local animals, using his amazing charisma and wilderness magic. The problem is the animals just did not have the knowledge he is looking for. Trent learned about the cat “Meowfia”, but we did not have the time to pursue this right now, but did arrange to meet with “Paulie” the following week.   Meanwhile, at the stables: Bud attained one horse and a cart (in addition to Jayco’s horse and cart). After eating an entire days’ worth of food in the morning (Good Berry addiction), the party assembled at the stables, and began their journey. The path was well-trod, being the main avenue of approach for the city. Only one passerby crossed their path. The Dragoons came upon a bridge that traversed the Silver Peak Run, a gorgeous waterfall that fed the river below. Nine miles into the path was a beastman with green skin and a scruffy face. He was outside of what appeared to be a trading post. This seemed to be the stop where they would exchange horses for new ones. Outside of the post was a goat with silvery-grey fur with green eyes.   Bud approached the beastman and asked to refresh our horses. He asked our names and Bud replied. The beastman was Joppo and his goat was Percival. We exchanged horses and planned to make our way past the post. We tried to rename the bandits; some ideas were “Turquois Terrors”, “Blue Bandits”, “Cyan Stealers”, ect… While debating the merits of wearing blue bandanas as opposed to purple bandannas (for the sake of being named the “Magenta Muggers”), a small horde of crab-riding fish men (sahuagin) attacked the outpost. After a brutally vicious fight, the fish men and their crabs were quickly defeated. Joppa was caught in an explosion caused by Rath. After Bud disposed of the largest crab, Rath went and healed Joppo with his healing herbs.
