Personal history

Excerpt from the diary of Orthus "Blu" Hale shortly after beginning his adventures:
Blu. Not even my real name. My parents named me Orthus - a name I don't even know if they remember. Everyone calls me Blu, everyone I care about. When I was quite young I swiped a blue piece of cloth from a tradesman. It was the most enticing color and it reminded me of the cove. I wore it as a sash, a scarf, and an armband - it was with me always and it stood out, so my friends called me Blue, they couldn’t spell well though, and after a while I just started going by Blu - even at home, when I was there. I never liked my father, the two of us have never even had a real conversation. It was always orders and chores and telling us kids to go outside and leave him alone. He talked to my oldest brother but cared little for anyone else, including Mom - she was baggage to him and in the end I never really cared much for her either.
Mom loved her children, but to her we were a herd and the daughters got the most attention - training more than attention, the older and closer to marriage the more the focus. I care for her as you would, but pity her more than miss her. She took more relief in my independence than pride and when I told her I was leaving - she simply said “I figured you would one day”.
I think the person who would be most likely to actually have missed me is Veruca - at least part of me hopes so. She’s a single year younger, maybe less, and when were really young, real kids, I was her partner in crime. Then one day she was old enough for the others and she had no time for fun or games anymore. Our older sister, Vira, took control of her time, a surrogate mother, and by mother I, of course, mean teacher. Sewing, cooking, manners, etc.
If we really reach Seyda tomorrow - I think it's Lars and Tike who will actually care, if they are still around. They were my partners in - well, everything. Stealing, games, mischief - finding dinner. Zawn would let me sleep on the floor between their beds even before I started tossing him coin. When they were old enough to leave the orphanage, Zawn found them their first job like all the kids - but it took them away. It's why I left, but by now they could be doing anything - anywhere. Maybe they’ll be there - maybe they won't.
The person I hope remembers me least - Harbourmaster Salt. He definitely doesn’t know my name, but my face' on the other hand... He’s chased me and the boys out of his trash quite a few times in our lives. Thankfully the scruff has really been coming in these last couple days...
