Cutter's Hollow

Entering Cutters Hollow you are following a dirt trail, the last proper road being a couple of days back. You've spent the past several hours on this trail winding through oppressively thick forest, but are abruptly within the Hollow itself, a stilt-legged watchtower to your left and a large white-ish warehouse to your right. Descending into the Hollow proper you see a dozen houses, all with the same white walls and thatched roofs, and the trail terminates at a well. Behind the well is a collection of four wooden totems, dedicated to Veritas, Selune, Mrannis and Lhea. there is a small cleared yard where felled trees are debarked and their branches removed, as well as a smokehouse, reeking of woodsmoke and fish.

Demographics

All human, save for a couple of half-elven hunters.

Government

The head of the hamlet is Tama Twice-shy, a male human so nicknamed from the huge bite-scars across his legs. Elected leader less for any actual leadership qualities, than for the fact that he's the only one living there capable of counting past fifty, so he handles the trading.

Defences

A wooden fence, more to mark a boundary than to act as a defence. A watchtower on the trail coming into the Hollow acts as the only real sentry.

Industry & Trade

The hamlet mainly subsists on hunting game and fishing the nearby lake, but the reason it was founded was the forest it's nestled in. Ancient trees here are in high demand for shipbuilding and construction, as well as the plethora of herbs found within the forest. In addition, the hunting usually results in a number of hides, pelts and furs for trade, as well as the occasional more exotic thing from rarer creatures.

Infrastructure

It has little infrastructure outside of the trail leading in, save for a central well. While the water is drinkable, most say it tastes metallic, so mainly use it for cleaning or fire management only, preferring the walk to the nearby lake to gather sweet fresh-tasting water and storing it in huge earthenware jars.

Guilds and Factions

Owned by the Nerrian Cutters Guild which manages all aspects of wood harvesting and herb gathering in Nerria.

History

This hamlet was founded around seventy years ago to help alleviate the growing demands for lumber in Kalabay. While technically owned and owing taxes to the Cutters Guild, it's left more or less autonomous due to its low population.

Architecture

Wooden frame, whitewashed wattle and daub walls, thatched roofs. There are a dozen homes here each with two to three inhabitants, as well as a large warehouse similarly constructed placed by the trail into town, for storage of tradable goods.

Geography

Nestled between several large hills and surrounded by deep woods. Fresh water is found at the large lake half a mile away.

Natural Resources

Common wood, rare wood, huntable game, herbs (both medicinal and culinary), fish, fresh water.
