Oxygenator

These oxygenators are small computerised devices about 1 square centimetre in size, with the ability to convert almost any gaseous substance into programmed, required base parts, and distribute them into the bloodstream of a living system.

Limitations:

The oxygenator, of course, has a few limitations. Notably, the oxygenator can only provide molecules into a 'blood'stream. It has some capability to deal with fluid transfer systems that vary in density, however gaseous or energy-based systems are beyond it's programmed purpose. Additionally, it cannot convert solids, only gases, although it is particularly adept at deconstructing to base molecules.

History:

Initially, these were designed as respirator devices able to draw and store oxygen particles alone and ration it's provision dependent on the detected levels inside the individual wearing it. The first oxygenator was worn as a mask on the outside of the face, and persevered for a few decades in this form. It contained a small tank that created oxygen from a living algal system and filtered it as necessary into the wearer.   Subsequently, the oxygenator was a device surgically inserted into the trachea. The algal system was made microscopic, however had a short lifespan and required injections to 'reup' the oxygenator.   Eventually, the oxygenator was made electric. A small system for splitting substances into their base parts, that required charging in order to use the regulator piece that was inserted into the nose. It had to be removed every day-cycle or so to charge. These were considered fairly unpopular and were quickly upgraded.   The move from respirator to chip had a few problems. The function produced a lot of kinetic energy in the form of heat, and would often 'burn up'. But the ability to embed a chip and never have to replace it again was an attractive one. Inventors developed and worked on this idea until ending up with the oxygenator that is in circulation today.   Of course, while the chips are still colloquially known as Oxygenators, given their original purpose, they can be programmed for just about any molecular transfer for lifeforms that utilise a fluid-based system for the transport of molecules throughout a physical form.

Circulation

The vast majority of Chyçurish and Chy individuals have no need for an oxygenator, their biology being well-suited to Tantsuy's atmosphere. They are also fairly expensive due to the materials required to produce the chips. While any Chyçurish or Chy could feasibly gain access to an oxygenator with the appropriate funds, the primary purchasers are those that travel off-planet.

That's a really neat concept - such a neat way of handling breathing... things... XD I'm the best with words.

What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?

Interesting way to "embed a chip and never have to replace it again." I enjoyed reading your article.

Stories that keep me guessing about where the monsters are hiding. Under my bed or in my head?
