Sunsilk

Sunsilk laid the groundwork for a technological revolution and gave the Rhuman empire the edge to spread across the Easten Blue, uniting the lands under their rule and bringing the people out of their isolation on the sky islands. Plants have the ability to take energy from the sun and store it within themselves, without the sun they die, too much sunlight and they burn. Sunsilk has the unique properties to harness sunlight and send that energy through it’s threads in a predictable manner. When made into sunsails the textile converts the energy of the sun and can produce heat, hurry natural processes of plants, create power to move ships and much more.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Sunsilk comes in varying qualities. On the low end sunsilk is rough and the color of wheat. It’s cheap and quick to make but good enough to power a heating table, a wooden slab that can turn hot enough to cook food on it. High quality sunsilk appears as fine gold threads. Golden sunsilk needs to be handled with care as it produces a lot of energy and can be dangerous on its own if there’s no outlet.

Life & Expiration

The material is sensitive to water and also naturally breaks down slowly by the sun, becoming ashen white. To lengthen sunsilk's shelf life it’s woven into more hardy threads when turned into textiles that repel water and heat. The silk needs to be paired up with plant materials as steel, gold or stone does not have spirit energy and breaks the connection of energy.

History & Usage

Refinement

Sunsilk is made from the hairs on the shell of a Double Coffee Nut. It shares some looks with a coconut but split into two sections and grows in a steppe or savanna climate. It’s inside is honey yellow and is said to taste like coffee left in syrup so long it’s turned horribly bitter and sour. The double coffee nut is cracked open and it’s shell is left to dry in the sun. Then the shells are boiled and the hairs fall off, ready to dry for another month or two in the sun before it can be spun into a thread and then woven into a textile together with other plant-based threads.
