Ruling Judge

A Judge is the third highest rank in the Dar’Tia Bureaucracy. After spending years as officers and passing the appropriate exams the Judge has authority to hold court hearings and pass out judgment in legal matters. Due to the fractured nature of the lands of the Eastern Blue where the people of the sky islands can be spread out most Judges travel around and go where they are needed to provide law and governance in these remote areas. Though there are places with higher concentrations of people that require a Judge to always be on hand. A Ruling Judge is a Judge who has been elevated to be the main authority in law in a specific area, with all the responsibility that comes with that title.

Perception

Purpose

A Judge must be knowledgeable in politics, law and have strength to fight for the empire. Their career progression through the Bureaucracy going from Officer, to Knight, Judge and then possibly Ruling Judge. At their disposal they have a book of laws, a full set of armor, an iron armguard that signals their position, power and responsibility, as well as a personal set of weapons blessed by the Empress in the name of Tiamat.   Part of the reasons why a Judge has so many different tasks comes down to the setting they are in. The world is fractured, the population small and no shortage of dangerous bandits and beasts. To rule is also to protect or you can’t maintain your authority. Most people have many or multifaceted professions for this reason. Even the pig farmers also grow their feed and wield a hunting rifle. If a Judge is being put into question or have their word resisted they must be ready to either win with their wit using the book of laws, use their connections or duel. This is even more true for a Ruling Judge who then must protect their community and can have their post taken from them by another Judge if they are found lacking in any of the three spheres; knowledge, influence and strength, as discussed above.
