The Arthinian Codex holds the known lexicon for Arthinian along with base structures for its grammar and syntax. Attempts to date the book have laced estimations for its age to as far back as the First Era. Beyond the theory that the work was brought by extraplanar creatures, or perhaps native Varians capable of interplanar travel, little is known for the origins of the Arthinian Codex nor why it managed to influence the continent’s language. In the aftermath of the War of the Scourge
, the Arcane Society
came into possession of the original lexicon and was responsible for creating copies that were distributed to major academies across the entirety of Varia.
The Codex and the language therein has provided a popular and ample source of scholarships for linguists over the millennia. Utilizing the same alphabets as the continent’s common language, the two languages held heavy resemblances in structure. These similarities have been theorized to have been the reason for the relatively seamless integration of Arthinian words, or at least derivatives of its lexicon, into the Varian vernacular.
