Mertinshire

Mertinshire is the home of the Holy Church of the Oleron Empire. Though the land is ruled by Duke Gadrath Mertin, he is merely a puppet of the church, and has been for many years. Patriarch Arcuth Galaceer, the former Holy Father of the Empire, has claimed that the gods have ordained Duke Mertin as the heir to the Imperial Throne and to stand against him is heresy. The region is in direct military conflict with Brandrshire, due to the Patriarch's claims. The people in this region are deeply religious, and highly xenophobic, more so than the rest of the Empire. While the quality of life is fairly ideal for citizens, they have walled off quarters of their cities with terrible living conditions where immigrants are forced to live. Patriarch Galaceer has made it clear that Filkorshire's dealings with Brisaides, and Albushire's strange religious practices are also unnacceptable corruptions of the Empire's way of life. Mertinshire has control of travel through the largest river in Oleron thanks to a fortress built on its banks. It stretches all the way from the norther tip of Filkorshire, down to the south of Brandrshire. They use this control to blockade trade and travel as much as they can.

Geography

Mertinshire has a long, sprawling forest along its mountain range to the west. To the east it has access to a long stretch of coastline. The land itself is mostly flat, similar to Brandrshire, and fertile. The river that runs through Filkorshire passes through Mertinshire where it forks out to the ocean and down to Brandrshire in the south. During winter, spring and fall, the north along the mountains is cold and coated with snow and ice.

Natural Resources

Mertinshire has access to wood and furs from its forests. They also established some mines in order to gather the stone necessary to maintain their castle, and bridges across the river. The region is able to bring in food from both land and sea with a thriving port city and many farms scattered through out the populated areas.
