The People's King

Fifty years ago, royal blood was shed, the last royal blood in the Kingdom of the Elements. Now, New royal blood might be shed again.   A civil war ended in blood, the king's blood, and the royal line was no more. The people demanded the blood of the royal line after the royal line demanded the blood of their people in what they saw as a wasteful war that had gone on longer than most could remember, and was caused by who knows what.   With the royals out of the picture, the people wanted a new king, but they also wanted a way to get rid of him without another uprising. They wanted a king with limited power who could be taken off the thrown at any time; and so the People's King was born, who would be kept in check by a small community of elected figureheads to represent each population in the kingdom. Once elected, you maintain your chair until death, whether that be by execution, old age, or assassination, that would be left up to the seat holder's choices. Though, Seat Holders often complete their life term without trouble, because most blame will always fall on the shoulders of the People's King.   Fifty years ago, when royal blood was shed, the people chose their first king. An honest man, most in the community of the capital knew and loved. The people's king would serve out his life as a king, and when he passed his son would have the chance to take up the crown. After his first five years in office, the people would have a vote. If 70% of the population felt him to be a poor fit for the crown, he'd be executed for treason, and a new People's king would be elected, most likely from the chair holders.   A people's king can be dethroned at any time, if all council members agree he is unfit to rule. This is a rare occurrence, as it has not happened in the fifty years since this system was created. in fact, for forty-nine of the fifty years, they have had the same king, a king the people loved all the way to death when they parted. Now, his son is on the throne, he has four years before the vote. Four years to win the election he was born into and if he fails, he dies.   Sadly, the cards are stacked against him as he has the blood of earth and wind, making him a sand blight. Sand blights are seen as untrustworthy criminals. This young king has done a lot even in this first year to win the hearts of his people, but will it ever be enough to see past his "shifty" appearance.   His life depends on it.
