Western Plains

Geography

The Waste lies on the western side of the Misty Mountains.

The plains lack any kind of major geographical feature inside them.

The plains are very arid, as the soil is made out of mostly sand and precipitations are a rare event.

Because of the lack of landmarks, it extremely difficult to orientate in the Waste. Only Lavædriè Elves seem to be capable of doing so, while other travelers must put themselves in the hands of Alea .

Fauna & Flora

Due to their arid climate, the Western Plains don't sustain any kind of plant life, exception made for some shrubs and rare fat plants.

On the other hand, the Waste is home to many beasts and other kind of creatures. The Red Scorpion is a species native to this location, and is adapted to survive with scarcity of water.

Have been reported many sightings of Dragons, and Lavædriè Elves are known to hunt them.

Legends among the Elves talk about Yuan-Ti colonies and wild Medusas in the most remote parts of the Waste, but no one ever came back to talk about them.

Natural Resources

even if not suited to host human life, the Waste offers a vast amount of raw ironglass. Many outposts have been founded in order to quarry it, the most important being Fracture, situated near the coast of the ocean.
