Sacred Mere
In the marketplace, surrounded by iridescent colors and pungent perfumes, one wouldn't expect to find a clear space surrounding a small shrine containing a small pond of circular water, but that place is surrounded by reverence and wonder. That place is known as the sacred mere.
Purpose / Function
The sacred mere is a place of religious reverence in Vapore. The shrine around it was built after the victory of a war that led the city to independence, in the place where the lady of the city used to pray, to thank the gods for the victory granted and to remember her courage that led Vapore to victory.
Once a year, on the anniversary of the end of the Siege of Vapore, are held celebrations around the mere, and thousands of candles are lit and left in the plaza untill they melt away. The current lord puts his candle in he mere at the start of the celebrations.
The cerimony of the election of a new lord takes place in the mere: he has to step inside, pray to the gods and don the golden plate.
Alterations
In 5387, a small temple consisting of a circular porch was built around the mere. The mere itself has been left untouched since its appearance.
Architecture
The temple consists of a small circular porch, with tapered columns on on the inside and outside perimeter. There are six columns on the inside and twelve on the outside. The distance between columns is of 3 ft. On top o the columns there is a barrel vault, with a mosaic representing the history of Vapore.
History
The Mere was formed when Lady Lynne of Vapore led the city to a victory and broke the Siege of Vapore , freeing the city. Lady Lynne went to pray and was struck by a lightning that left her unscratched, and the mere formed at her feet. Despite the muddy ground around it, the mere was crystal clear, and became object of veneration.
The Plaza of the Four Temples formed later around the mere, and a small shrine was built. When the plaza was paved, only the mere was left untouched.
