Kestrel Character in Ysireth | World Anvil

Kestrel ((they/them))

Kestrel, whose birth name is unknown to any of their current companions, was a hy'Aeldvar and companion to Hyldanpev, the renowned and reclusive Abyssal sorcerer. Kestrel is usually presumed to be a sol'Aeldvar, as they stand around five feet tall and keep a cloak and hood wrapped around them at all times, obscuring their more telltale features of a feathery mane. Their skin color is a deep blued-black, though they were born with ivory-pale skin and cream-colored hair; they, like many others, are now a member of the voy'Aeldvari after an arcane ritual went terribly wrong. Kestrel was one of Hyldanpev's crew who saved the lives of those involved in the ritual, but like Hyldanpev, Kestrel was mutated into an Abyssal-stained version of their previous self.   Kestrel usually serves as the face of Hyldanpev's crew, being affable and laid-back, but their intelligence and social acumen should never be underestimated. They are observant, sharp-witted, and quick to notice patterns where others might not; their loyalty to Hyldanpev is unquestionable, and their understanding of what the infamous sorcerer might want or need to know is impeccable. Still, Kestrel is easy to get along with; they are often sent to distribute messages (in person or by sending ritual) to other voy'Aeldvari. They have a habit of referring to other people as "friendlies" and possess a low-key charm that often puts kinvari at ease without realizing it.   Kestrel's magical prowess is largely unknown outside of Hyldanpev's crew; almost no one sees them perform magic, either arcane or Abyssal, beyond basic communication spells and rituals that are common knowledge.
