Timberwolf

The forest stretched, let his roots wander over soft earth and hard stone, followed the curves of refreshing water. It stretched, and it felt, and it thought. And the larger it grew, the more it could understand, about the small waters leading into big waters, about the earth curving slightly, as if was the shape of a giant fruit.   But there are still mysteries, parts of the forest being there one moment then gone the next, and when he touched them next the world in those places would be strangely shaped, with edges and dark caverns. So the forest thought, and it came up with a theory. Maybe there was other life, very fast life, too fast to feel. Creatures that could move on the scale of a single sunbeat. The forest knows about time that short on scientific level, about strobing of the light source above, but those things are hardly of any practical consequence. Still, the mobile threat was undeniable, and it got more and more aggressive. A plan was made, a mobile threat of the forests design. To reach the speeds required, it would have to be a simple mind, a microscopic, self replicating life form, tasked with slowing down the fast moving enemy for the forest to study. Behold, version six, hardened exterior, quad-appendage movement inspired by the mobile threats own design, internal chemical reactor, given enough raw resources they can double in number in only 113 sunbeats. For now the experiment will run for 20 temperature gradients and then self terminate, the technology is still new after all, but the forest projects that within 800 temperature gradients a full release will be possible.
