Scarsaur Market

Scarsaur market is the biggest unofficial market area on Greenerth. Constructed out of huge rock pillars, this market area is over a square mile of stalls for you to get lost in, and simultaneously lose all of your money. Founded over two hundred years ago, the market area has grown massively, and has brought together many races of beings, as the market functions both above water and underwater, meaning underwater races and land races can sell their goods.

Demographics

The permanent population of Scarsaur Market could not be more diverse. In the underwater division of the market, you can find Eusteans from around the world, in all the different kingdoms, and the land division is home to Harmonids of all ethnicities, Potato Goblins selling their plated potatoes, tons of other races selling their unique materials.

Government

Taxation exists on the market stalls, but not a lot. The market towers were constructed by the people who sell their items, and therefore the government couldn't tax them a lot. Taxes range from 2% to 5% depending on the location of the stall in the market. This is because certain parts of the market towers were constructed by the government itself, where they can tax more, and some parts are built by the people, where they tax less.

Industry & Trade

The entire area consists of hundreds of unique market stalls, set up and lived in by people moved here from across the world, and sometimes even from other planets. This market area is interplanetarily known, so people from other planets like to come here to purchase things. To avoid the conflict of different currencies, the market area acts more of a bartering area, trading new and valuable materials for others. During several periods of time, new currencies were created used especially in this market area to make life simpler, but unfortunately never succeeded since most people enjoyed obtaining new and interesting things through the bartering. Some people are happy to trade money, but most opt for material bartering.

Infrastructure

Scarsaur market is constructed mainly out of large rock pillars. These rock pillars are about 10 metres thick, and serve as the main support of the platforms. The platforms are a metre thick, and they are made from sturdy plant materials woven together to create an indestructable base. These platforms are reinforced with earth magic, making sure that the platforms won't break and can support hundreds of stalls as well as thousands of visitors constantly walking on it. Several large cargo ships that have sunk in the Bottomless Sea have been salvaged, the insides used for several diners, restaurants, cafe's and hotels. Their size can provide for hundreds of guests, and they provide breathtaking views of the abyssal sea.

Tourism

Scarsaur market attracts millions of tourists yearly, due to the amazing sights from the platforms, and the general thrill of bartering. The restaurants, cafes and hotels built from sunken ships earns themselves millions of corral alone. Barterers living at the market have found that people are most interested in buying colourful items, so the hunt for the shiniest, most colourful items has resulted in the market becoming a lot more brighter place to be. The loud music that plays, the smells of foods being cooked, the beautiful creatures that swim around the market attract these tourists, it is truly a place of wonder to visit.

Geography

This wonderful market area is constructed on the side of Scarsaur Island, an island stranded miles off of the coast of southwest Vustrimia. The island gave a perfect place to expand on for the land barterers, and the vast Bottomless Sea was the perfect place to expand for the underwater barterers. The sturdy rock the island is built from provided great structural support for the pillars, which greatly reassured visitors since the whole platforms were made from plant debris.

Famous barterers

With hundreds of market stalls and buildings, there are sure to be a lot of barterers here. Some of them are astonishing barterers, and have earned themselves a good (or terrible) reputation.
Iufinds
Iufinds, or IU, is a Eustean barterer. He has his market building underwater, made from a large geode he scrambled up the underwater cliffs and brought to the market. He trades random but valuable items, such as utensils, gears, the occasional bike he finds tossed in the sea, and in return he expects your finest precious rocks. It doesn't matter if you don't like the rock, I'm sure he will. Iufinds is a the biggest rock enthusiast you'll find in the Yonderverse, bring him a rock and you're on his good side for life.
Mara
Mara is a centipede barterer. He is a mutated centipede, given sapience by mages who experimented on him. He fled the laboratory and found himself a boat on the Vustrimian shores, which he took to Scarsaur Island, settling in the market area. He used a few books he stole and began a life of potion brewing. If you speak to him for a potion, he'll tell you to bring him the ingredients, and you can watch him make them. Sometimes people ask him to make potions, not because they need them but because it's fun to see the explosions and chemical reactions.
Food Guy
Food guy refuses to disclose his name. Many people think he's a criminal avoiding prison, but his delicious food deters people from questioning it. Food guy's life as a market stall owner revolves around cooking unique foods. These foods include moonvine-wrapped pastries, marrow cookies, and tons of other delicious foods you can carry round while you barter more things. Food Guy is not often found at his market area, it is believed he is out shopping for ingredients, since you need money to purchase his foods.
