Leaftop Species in Yonderverse | World Anvil

Leaftop

Leaftops are common birds found in the jungles of Tropacia and Southern Sarra. They are a domesticated species, and have been trained to send messages from one settlement to another that do not use technology, or use any kind of texting device.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Leaftops have a silvery grey plumage, with striking yellow feathers on its crest, wingtips and its tail feathers. They have four toes on each feet, two facing forwards and two facing backwards as most tree climbing birds do, for balance on the branches. Their tail feathers divert into five distinct directions, and they have two long spindly feathers that end in a blue tear shape.

Genetics and Reproduction

Leaftops lay bright green eggs with brown splotches. They lay 5-6 eggs in large tree canopies that they customise with leaves and vines and bright coloured feathers. The species is known for their beautiful nests which they keep for the rest of their lives.

Ecology and Habitats

Leaftops thrive in thick, dense forests, where the climate is muggy. The muggy climate is the perfect condition for small insects, and a leaftop loves nothing more than eating them! It's what makes them so easy to tame.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Leaftops are insectivores. Their entire diet consists of a rich variety of insects and other invertebrates, from spiders and centipedes to small vegetableflies. They spend about half of their days flying around the dense forests in search of insects they can eat or take back to their nest.
