Laurelite Material in Yonderverse | World Anvil

Laurelite

Laurelite is a type of rare crystal found most famously underneath the Sanra Forest in Greenerth and underneath Kazaharo Cliffs in Dracosei, as well as other locations. It is well known for the glaze storms they cause, when smaller fragments are attracted to larger chunks on planets, and subsequently cause burning hot rain.

Physical Properties

Laurelite is a silvery colour, and is extremely shiny. So shiny in fact, in high concentrations it can cause temporary blindness. The crystal is very tough to break and is completely immalleable.
Laurelite's melting point is low, and upon entering planet's atmospheres, they tend to melt and react easier with water vapour than they would as a solid.
These crystals are very slightly conductive of electricity, and are completely insoluble in water, and most other liquids.

Geographic Distribution

While laurelite is commonly found in space, simply floating around and waiting to come into contact with a planet, it can also be found within those planets. The most famous laurelite veins are underneath the Sanra forest in Greenerth, and the Kazaharo Cliffs in Dracosei.
Other significant laurelite veins exist in Karkhala, Cosnia and Qaiah, and Halhosf.

Xibronoe Extraction Facility

Taking advantage of the permanent storms on Xibronoe, the Xibronoe Extraction Facility uses several large greenhouses and a massive laurelite core to attract any passing laurelite in space, and create the glazed sheen on the plants from glaze storms which are harvested and created into jewelry.

Glaze Storm

Glaze storms are a unique meteorological phenomenon that occurs in select regions on few planets within the Yonderverse. Laurelite clumps in space are attracted to larger veins underground in planets, and when they enter the atmosphere they react with water vapour in clouds, creating special laurelite infused water. The rain from these clouds are blinding, and after a "glaze storm" any vegetation is left with a thin layer of this rain, which shimmers in the light and can also potentially blind you.

I really like the idea of a crystal so shiny it could blind you. XD
