Grounding the Power before the Surge
General Summary
In being woken by a radio alarm clock in New Rousanage, the party learned that Viktii Reva had been arrested for negligence for allowing the second power cut to happen. A visit from Peggy, the elderly receptionist at the Advanced Guard, told them about Viktii being arrested because he wouldn't give up the names of the party members, who they were trying to have exiled.
The party decided they needed to fix it, and the best way was to finish solving the problem at the power station. They needed the assistance of someone with a technical mind so headed over to New Rousanage's Tinkerers and Casters. To try and not draw attention to themselves Somnis and Ignatious, they pulled their hoods up and kept their heads down. Alda decided to keep lookout and pretend to be a beggar and Gao kept a birds eye view.
Outside the Advanced Guard, Knights of Leiyah were in formation being an intimidating force. One broke off to tell the old woman who'd started begging (Alda). She gave him lip and a kick and made a run for it. She expertly dodged 3 attempts to pin her down, but the forth guard was successful. As the guard marched angrily toward her she banished herself, not knowing that she originated on the Dark Continent and so got stuck there.
Meanwhile, in the Tinkerers and Casters, Somnis and Ignatious met Teckla, a 5' 4" Tiefling with a self designed lilting accent. He originally quoted an exuberant fee for his services, but the knowledgeable Ignatious talked him down to something far more reasonable. They took a back exit, which meant taking Teckla's hovering jetski.
They picked up Gao, and looked around for Alda but couldn't see her, and then went to THE gallery to meet a guy who knew about weird biologies.
Ba Fu-Xiu, a Half Orc who identifies himself as an elf spiritually and culturally, is an artist who paint images of creatures he sees in his mind eye, as his minds eye sails the Astral Sea and encounters planar creatures. He was able to identify the creature they saw as a lightning golum as grown in the Lightning Gardens of the Plane of Fire. He suggested mother earth might help stabilise the creature.
The party decided to explore what happened to Alda before they applied their new knowledge. Investigating the site led to learning Alda hadn't teleported. It also drew the attention of the Knights of Leiyah, who had a bit of an argument with Somnis and Ignatious, and when Ignatious Dimension Door'ed away, made them wanted criminals with their faces plastered in the sky.
The party made a run for it and headed to the power station. Inside they found Ulysses McCree, the nervous router who had helped them last time, who had not gained any confidence but was commanding is now mindless colleagues in keeping the station running. Teckla took a look at the various monitors and control panels to try and understand what was going on in the power station. He found that the power cell was producing twice as much energy as it should be, even though the output was the same, Vinxetti must have been consuming the other half the energy. This was bad, as the power station couldn't maintain this kind of power generation, and at this point it needed Vinxetti in there to make it run at all. If the power wasn't controlled soon, the whole station would implode and tear a hole in space. To be able to try and control the power though meant turning it off, and without Vinxetti in there it was hard to tell if they could get it started again.
The party decided that a controlled third power outage now was better than an uncontrolled one and an implosion later. They were able to phone through to the city to give them a heads up. They decided it would be best if Ulysses were to do the talking, which he did to moderate success. On his third attempt he finally admitted that they would be causing another powercut, at which point a very angry Knight of Leiyah said he would send a platoon down to kill him personally for this failure.
The party waste no time in heading into the central chimney, and find it easy enough to convince a seemingly mentally drained Vinxetti outside. He was wise enough however to get his minions to tear up some of the copper caging and place it on the ground for him to walk on. After leading him outside, Somnis was able to telekineticly push Vinxetti onto the grass, where his electrical charge was immediately grounded and him life force dissipated.
With the Knights of Leiyah closing in, the party realise that there is precious little time before the power core cools and there is no chance of them starting it again. Teckla estimates that it will take the force required to kill 20, applied all at once to the the phusion cell started again, though they had about 1 minute until the cell would be too cold. After spending 42 valuable seconds discussing a plan of action, Ignatious struck the orb with a spell and Gao cut down Somins with Hellsplitter. Somnis, linked to the Ebony Light, lept straight to his feet again, letting out a burst of radiant energy which blasted the orb hard enough to get it running.
At that moment the Knights arrive. After the party show off their heroics and that they'd saved the city so no need for them to be made, one of the Knights explains that they don't care. The Knights of Leiyah aren't interested in the party because of their involvement in power cuts, they're interested in Gao for being associated with the Supposers who once attacked and destroyed a portion of the MacBeth family homes, one of the powerful The Five Families of Po. While following this trail they'd also picked up on the fact that the missing Bancroft son was among them and his family really wanted him back. Somnis forces the Knights mind to believe that the party would meet him back at the Advanced Guard later. The party have no intention of heading back to the city. Not while their elderly friend is missing. Somnis asks his magic orb of the eight where she is...
Meanwhile, Alda wakes up face down in the grass, except the grass is black and slimy as though decaying. All around stand rotting trees, dead black leaves falling from their branches, and the sky above a basin of ink. Out of the heavy fog a small bunny makes itself known, turns to look at Alda and dislocates its jaw, bearing 20 sets of razor teeth, roars and hops away. Alda is stuck in the Dark Continent with no way out.
