In Vilasien, there are no slaves, and very few servants - everyone is considered their own man, with freedom being one of the core tenets of their society. However, many entrepreneurs, sailors, farmers and families have need of an extra pair of hands from time to time. This is where Tasktakers come in. Effectively freelance workers, they will run errands, ferry items, hawk wares, relay messages, or anything else within reason - at least, one of them will. There is a Tasktaker's Union, and there are a few guilds and companies you can go to, as well as one-man or one-family businesses in this industry.

Payment often depends on the task - whether travel is involved, or danger. Is strength, or tact, or dexterity required? It is usually up to the discretion of each individual.
