The Moonwitch

Summary

The tale of the Moonwitch first started as nothing more than a jest. One night as a young fey mother was trying to convince her child to go to sleep, she decided to make up a small story...of a witch that wandered at night amongst the giant trunks of the trees in the Fairy King's Forest. It was rumored, the mother explained to her young feyling, that the Moonwitch wasn't simply wandering, but rather searching the Forest...for a sacrifice! And The Moonwitch just loved to snatch up naughty little faelings who wandered out of their beds at night. One bedtime story turned into a nightly warning. "You'd better stay in bed and go to sleep, or the Moonwitch will come to snatch you!" Upon seeing such success managing her unruly child, the mother spread the word amongst her friends of how she'd finally managed to tame her child into going to bed on time. Her friends, of course, all tried it with their children too, and then continued to spread the word...Until the legend had carried down generations, and became custom.

Historical Basis

The Moonwitch, in actuality, is very real. Her name is Kara Rex. An ancient half-fae, half-daeva whose powers grow in direct relation to the moon. A druidess of sorts, Kara is a protector. She wanders through her family's Fairy Forest at night, guarding it from all dangers, of which there were many in the early days, when the borders of humankind were growing and becoming established. Now most nights she simply meanders, observing the health of the forest and helping it along with her magic. She stays closer to her family's grounds, helping to make sure young Rex fae are safe in their beds.

Spread

A common legend amongst fae who occupy the Fairy Forest near the Rex settlement. While there are a few ancient fae who know the real "Moonwitch" , they are content to keep the information to themselves.
