Arkes

A once-respectable family distantly branching off from the ancient Tir-Falora clan. Within the fluid social architecture of the Labyrinth, the Arkes family never came close to royalty but was nevertheless ancient and well-known. From beginning to their now near-end, the Arkes were always a small family ever-concerned with keeping their bloodline true to form, which is perhaps the reason their control of shadows carried on through every child in the line.   Five thousand years ago the Arkes were already heavily on the decline, down to their last pairing and only heir, a daughter named Asterope. Due to an unfortunate arranged marriage that went sour, the Arkes lost all prominence within the Labyrinth with the death of Asterope's parents.   Though Asterope Arkes still lives, it's clear she has forever abandoned her ancestral lands to live surface-side with the last Arkes heir: her son, Katavro Arkes.

Arkes Traits

  • Three sets of canine (cuspid) teeth on both their top and bottom rows of teeth. When mated with families who have no dominant facial traits, this often drops to two sets.
  • Hair colors ranging from blondes, pinks, oranges, into umber.
  • Pale skin (recessive gene).
  • Exceptional control of shadows and darkness, even greater than the Tir-Falora. A dominant gene and highly compatible trait. Almost all Arkes, no matter their other parent, wield shadows.
  • Natural access to Transformation magic from a young age, manifesting it naturally.
Arkes daevata are hard to identify as they often opt to adopt two completely separate forms: An extremely humanlike form absent of any horns, tails, or wings & their 'true form' that comes in all manner of nightmare. Their true forms deviate heavily from one another, influenced strongly by their non-Arkes parent, though commonly these changes steer away from additional appendages (limbs, wings, horns).
