Thandava

Thandava is the last Elvhen nation.   The Elven Empire once controlled half of all of Xanthiri, perhaps even more. It is hard to say, as much of their historical records were destroyed during the 100 year war with the Dragons. They were on the losing end of the fight, the mighty Dragons overpowering them at every turn. It was a miracle they held out as long as they did, thanks to their magic.   By the time of the Scourge, eliminating the Dragon threat but bringing about a new Human threat, Thandava was the last prominent Elven nation. Of course there were fragments of other countries, to the Eastern and Southern realms, but they were quickly dissolved. Thandava, on the other hand, has managed to hold onto the bulk of its land.   Forces from the North, the South, even across the Ocean of Glass were unable to break through Thandava's defenses. The mysterious Guardians of the Pyre made sure of that. The Guardians have made Thandava a place of refuge and safety for the Elven and their allies, and a formidable opponent to its enemies.   Now, the Guardians who serve Aljaan have gone silent. In their absence, assassins rise in power. A plague spreads from the depths of the wilds, the first victims already claimed.

Government

Being a theocracy, the leader of the Elvhen religion is the leader of Thandava.   Thandava is ruled by their spiritual leaders, the Rashanee Conclave, who appoint an Acharya. An Acharya is one who has devoted their life to studying magic and the ancients, praised for their knowledge of the gods. The Acharya is a title thrust upon someone worthy, rather than something one applies for. It would be a great dishonor to the gods to turn down the position.   Acharya Kashvi is currently suspected of aiding the Maena’ha, an assassin organization. This is a very polarizing subject in Thandava, as the assassins did end the Glass War, but they have also rejected many teachings of the gods.

Military

Thandava does have a formal military, though it is overshadowed by the power of the mage priests. It is considered part of the priests job to protect Thandava, so they are often involved in conflicts.   The Maena'ha, or the River's Hand, is an assassin organization and currently Thandava's best defense. Their infamy for ending the Glass War struck fear into all other nations, effectively discouraging any attempted conflicts.

Religion

Thandava's laws and practices are guided by the ancient Elvhen religion. The Acharya, the holiest, highest honored individual within the religion leads Thandava.   The ancient gods greatly valued charity and justice, so many of their laws and practices are guided by this. Some think that this leads to weakened armed forces, but they do believe that some situations may often require violence to attain justice, such as in the cases of defending their lands and protecting their people.

Agriculture & Industry

Thandava's agriculture is the most important part of its economy. They grow much of the world's rice, but their spices are extremely desirable, making any food palatable.

Education

Thandava is somewhat educated. Children typically study at temples under priests, but their curriculum is heavily based in magic practices and favors mages more than others.   The main schools of magic, or paradigms, taught in Thandavan temples are Spiritual and Elemental. Elvhen religion believes in an innate elemental affinity present in all beings. They place a high priority on learning magic that falls within ones affinity, such as a fire affluent person prioritizing learning fire elemental magic.   While everyone is at least somewhat literate, the intricacies of learning more of the ancient Elvhen language is left to mages and priests. The language itself holds words of power, so mages tend to study it more extensively than most.
