Northerner

The Humans of North make up the majority of the Estean population. Their identity and culture is so entwined with the Empire, they are most commonly what one thinks of when they think of an "Estean" person.

Appearance

Northern humans have pale skin and dark brown to black hair. Because the Empire encompasses many other races and traders come from all over, it’s extremely common to have mixed children, so features can vary greatly.

Names

Children are given names based on a parent name, typically the head of the house. They have the same starting letter or sound, sometimes being given the same name.

Religion

Northerners follow The Order of Martalia , though some in close proximity to Sylphs or Stone Dwarven may pick up on some of their little beliefs and superstitions.

Beauty Ideals

Northerners like dark eyebrows and very fair skin. Despite being the tallest humans, they find short statures to be quite pleasant and desirable.

Gender Ideals

In human circles, occupation has much to do with gender. Women take high skill jobs of the mind, and men take low skill jobs of the body. Within the Order religion, which most Northerners follow, men and women tend to lead equally, though some roles are restricted only to women (Oracle and Sanctuary Mother).

Binary trans people are largely accepted, but still face their own struggles. It can sometimes be seen as a way to up your status, in the case of trans women. For trans men, they may be chastised for “throwing away opportunities.” Non-binary or gender nonconforming individuals are met with confusion and overall ignorance.

Relationship Ideals

There is no restriction on who can love who gender wise. While bloodlines are important to some families, it mostly has to do with race. Often just having a child that looks the part is good enough, even if it means adopting. This is partially due to spiritual connections via Fate are seen as legitimate ties on par with blood relations.
