Undine

Undines are one of the four categories of "Beastmen". While Chimera are mammalian, Dracolings reptilian, and Skyborn avian, the Undine are aquatic. Some may be shark-like, while others are more like fish, but they all are perfect for their home in the sea.   While many consider all sentient aquatic life to be more-or-less the same creatures, there are two distinct groupings. Those are the Undine and Melusia. The difference is that, while Undine are humanoid creatures with arms and legs, as well as a tail, gills, and other aquatic features, the Melusia are more like oceanic Taurus.   The Undine are a loosely organized society, but with few central places to gather. They only have a few cities scattered around the waters in which they are natives. Chief among them is Atlantis, but Ys, Limuria, and Kitezh are also notable. Nearly the entire race lives within these four cities, with only a few living anywhere else.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Undine are varied, but all are built for the water. Whether shark, whale, or otherwise, the Undine are made for the water. However, they are also still able to go up on land, bearing arms and legs, as well as the ability to breathe air and water.   An interesting quirk of their biology is the fact that prolonged exposure to the world above water causes them to lose body mass, while being in the water causes it to return. The process of shrinking takes a few weeks, at least, but it’s no less drastic. An Undine who’s reached the end of their shrinking will only be about 5’6”, but at full strength in the water, they’ll be at least an additional foot. They never actually need to return to the water, being fully able to survive outside of it, but they will be more prone to fatigue and disease if they continue to remain away from water. All they need to do to keep this from happening is to immerse themselves fully in water for eight hours at least twice a week. This can be done while sleeping.

Ecology and Habitats

Like their fellow Beastmen, there are Undine that live in most of the oceans, but that is definitely their primary habitat. They are able to live on the land, but it is detrimental to their health in the long-run, shortening their life.
