Popi

Popi is the ground seeds of the Roku, known for its hallucinogenic properties. Though an illicit substance, regulated everywhere, and banned in the majority of nations, the sale and consumption is booming. This is nigh entirely thanks to Hashoga Island. As a settlement that is both a natural supply of Roku seeds, and a settlement that lacks governmental oversight, it is the perfect place to provide popi to the masses.
In point of fact, while it is hardly the only thing that keeps Hashoga afloat, the island would be a shell without the popi trade. While their other illicit activities bring in people from Yugawa, the popi trade brings them from all over. Even people that never set foot on Hashogan soil are still lining the pockets of her people, as they are more-or-less the only supplier - certainly the only with any true volume of distribution.
Popi used to be much more widely used, and was even believed to be a remedy for various "afflictions of the mind", but, in the early Age of Kings, its use became much more restricted. However, that was enough time for many to get a taste for the stuff, causing demand to skyrocket when it was no longer available on common shipping lines. People in, say, Kalastrad, no longer had ready access to it, and couldn't grow it, as their climate would never support a Roku crop. Therefore, the only way to get it is via illegal trade with the people of Hashoga or a pirate crew from Havan that grew it or stole it. However, as it is not native to Havan, they have it in much less ready supply.
