Monk

Monks are members of the Kami-do faith that have dedicated themselves to the task of becoming gods. This is entirely rooted in their belief that anyone is capable of achieving godhood. Similar to the Lách Doire belief that simply becoming a legend will cause you to be reborn after death into the god you are believed to be, the Kami-do believe that mortals can become gods. It is simply their methodology that differs. For the Kami-do, becoming a god is an arduous path that requires an incredible amount of time and effort on the part of the Monk.   First of all, they must be able to have every one of their chakra open at the same time, thus connecting themselves to all the cosmos at once. This is the “Connection of the Self”. Being able to have the entire universe – multiverse, really – pass through them is essential to being a god. However, it should be stated that this is different to the opening of gates for the sake of casting spells. Rather than attempt to manifest energy from all of the cosmos at once - a feat considered impossible by arcanologists - the goal is to allow that small piece of the Soul that originates in each cosmos to reconnect. In essence, the purpose is to conquer the pull of the cosmos.   Second, they must become able to see both the spirit and mortal worlds at the same time. This is intrinsically linked to the first, as they must open the Third Eye chakra to do this, but it expands on it, as it requires them to be able to have the gate open at all times. They call this the “Expansion of the Self”.   Thirdly, they must be able to cast off all mortal fears, as they will be above matters of mortal life when they ascend. They will live forever, so they will have no need to fear death. They will bear immense power, so they will have no need to fear pain. They will command the power of the heavens, so they will have no need to fear others. This is referred to as the “Cleansing of the Self”.   Fourth, they have to deny the ownership of material possession, as they will have no need when they attain godhood. Their supplicants will give them all they could desire, so there is no need to hold onto these things in their mortal life. This is “Denial of the Self”.   Finally, they must become the physically perfected version of themselves. They go to great lengths to “perfect” their bodies, but it generally ends up with them building an insane amount of muscle. However, these are not just for show. Monks are known to be able to fell trees with their fists, push boulders up hills, and run as quickly as horses. This is the “Honing of the Self”. They feel that this is an important step as an imperfect vessel will not be able to hold a perfected soul. They must create a body fit for godhood.   If a Monk is able to do all of these things, they believe they will be able to become gods.

Career

Qualifications

In order to be a Monk, you have to dedicate yourself to the tenets of the monastic order. This is not truly a qualification, but it is a prerequisite. As a part of that, Monks are required to live at the monastery.

Career Progression

There isn't a set line of progression, but there is an ultimate goal. A Monk's work will be complete when they have moved beyond the self and become a god.

Payment & Reimbursement

Payment is sort of the antithesis of being a Monk, so there really isn't any. However, the pay-off for completing their goal is infinite.

Other Benefits

The benefits of being a Monk are, theoretically, infinite. If they are able to "complete" their work, they will become a god and have every benefit possible.   On a more tangible note, they have their every need met. They are fed well, as they must take in quality food to produce a quality life, and they have lodging anywhere there is a Kami-do temple.
