Arcanologist

Arcanology is the study of magic and its properties. Arcanologists, then, are the scholars that do said research. These are distinct from the practitioners of magic, though the vast majority of Arcanologists are, in fact, Mages in their own right.
In a very real way, an Arcanologist is not so different from the Monks of Yugawa. Though they have very different beliefs and approaches to their work, both are fundamentally seeking an understanding of the cosmos and methods of harnessing that power. Monks believe that they already understand how it works (maybe they do) and that it's simply a matter of accepting and embracing the fullness of that truth. Arcanologists, meanwhile have very little that they are certain of, and, instead, seek to acquire a deeper understanding - believing that it is the investigation of the cosmos that cracks the barrier.
