Pyting Pyramid

The Pyramid of Pyting, as it is known to the Pingbi, is a large sandstone structure found in the deserts of Huon. Constructed by the primitive peoples of the region before the Tuvelian settlers arrived, it is a stepping-stone pyramid structure that once held a large altar on the top. The desert has since overcome this structure, stripping any paint it might have had, while any gold or other such treasure has long been absconded by looters.

Purpose / Function

The pyramid, as hypothesized by the Pingbi scholars who visit it, was likely a temple or cathedral of the proto-Vang in their sun worship. The pyramid was once painted a vibrant array of reds, oranges, and yellows, and decorated with gold and silver - though these have long been stripped by the sands and the looters.   Undiscovered by later looters is a hidden chamber within the pyramid itself, concealed by stonework. Inside is the burial place of a great monarch of a long-lost Vang dynasty, buried with his wives and many of his closest advisors and pets.

Alterations

The paint, along with anything valuable, has been long removed from the pyramid face. A small shrine to the Tuvelian divinity Ebelle exists outside, to purify any remaining taint from the dark gods of the Huon primitives, and is frequently visited by tourists along with the pyramid itself.

Architecture

The structure was constructed from large blocks of sandstone, and the exact methods of construction are unclear to Pingbi scholars. There are stairs on all four sides of the pyramid, allowing easy access to the top for the conduction of ceremonies, although the altar on top has been removed by Pingbi settlers.

Tourism

The pyramid attracts the occasional set of travellers, and some even ascribe religious significance to the heathen temple - seeing it as a sign of triumph against the Huon primitives.   Even so, the occasional Vang pilgrimage manages to make it past the guards and conduct clandestine ceremonies on the temple's former altar.
