Ororathai: Flag Towers

Purpose / Function

Keyrit's Gambit showed the Ugo-yt Empire how overly extended the fledgling nation was. Covering the majority of two continents, the singular government couldn't recall standing armies or relay urgent matters to its subdivisions. Recently conquered tribes in the east had arisen in revolt, and provincial governors would request supplies or aid. By the time assistance was sent, the locals would have bypassed the deficiency and presented central authorities with a fresh set of concerns.

With the distance between imperial borders already vast, simple naval messages wouldn't suffice. It was fabled that the ancient werai established a beacon system to signal over large distances. Future evidence would prove this legend false, but the immediate results the connection made would be copied throughout the world. The designers adopted a modified version of the urailu (float wagon) communications language from Keyrit, in which a handful of flags were employed to convey a basic list of vital emergencies.

Architecture

The largest obstacle was the gap that split Yatkaugo and Retrougo, a wide strait commonly plagued with fog and snow. Engineers calculated that, in perfect conditions, constructed towers on either side of the channel could barely see each other's peaks. In fact, taller buildings had been erected in Rgo Ugo. The issue was the foundation, which was mostly sand. For national security, though, no price was too high. Six separate excavation projects removed the unstable material and reached bedrock. From there, the spires were built. From this new base to the peak, the constructions broke several height records.

In times of limited visibility, the local establishments would send a small fleet of vessels to carry the message across the waters. These ships were vulnerable to the elements and required constant replacement.

These structures dictated the placement of the remaining points. While certain placements fortunately coincided with key cities (notably Gykrete and Rakouriyo), others landed themselves in the middle of nowhere, and eventually paved the way for the development of minuscule settlements later in the empire's history. Those hamlets were linked in Wouraiya's very first inter-continental roadway network.
