Lycanthropy
Referring to lycanthropes, or werewolves. Not to be confused with Lycans.
Transmission & Vectors
Lycanthropy is often transmitted through blood. However, becoming a lycanthrope via a ritual is also common. Rare lycanthropes are made through a blessing by a deity, either as a reward or a curse.
The condition becomes infectious around the fourth stage, but lycanthropes are not allowed to turn others until their condition becomes permanent. But accidents do happen.

Symptoms
Early on, the victim will feel weak, pass out, and have splitting headaches. It is unclear if the victim experiences hallucinations. Then when the victim somewhat recovers, they feel strong and bigger than themselves. It is imperative to not move the victim no matter how strong they feel.
Treatment
Painkillers and other medicines may treat the symptoms during the "suffering" stages of lycanthropy. Such as easing headaches and other pains. Watching over the victim's body is important. It is noted that you are to take care of and nourish the body until it can take care of itself on its own.
While there is no true treatment to lycanthropy, an alternative is becoming a vampire. However, once one becomes non-human, they are forever non-human.
Another way to lessen the effects and urges of lycanthropy to becoming a "normal human" again is to wear a lot of silver. Rings, bracelets, anklets, necklaces or chokers, leg bands, waist bands, or piercings of any variety can help. However, not every werewolf that wishes to be human again wears silver, as it can also be a show of strength for one to wear such a weakening material and be able to function normally.

Prevention
Not making deals with strange beings for power and not performing strange rituals one find in old books helps.
Cultural Reception
If a lycanthrope were to tell a regular human that they were a lycanthrope, they'd be met with disbelief, fear, or worry that they suffer from an illness or delusion of some sort.
