Frozen Transformation Disorder

Frozen Transformation Disorder, or FTD, is a condition where one with therianthropy tries to transform, but ultimately becomes stuck, or "frozen," some way into transformation. The condition comes in a scale, with extreme cases where one has nearly become what they meant to turn into (aka: if an animal with therianthropy tried to transform, they would become human and vice versa.)
Those with FTD may be hunted and even actively killed because of their appearance by humans.
It is believed that quite a few mythological creatures are based on beings with FTD, such as harpies.

Symptoms

It is clear when a victim has Frozen Transformation Disorder (FTD) after one's first shift. Though FTD may appear after any shift, it is unlikely that one has it if they manage to shift correctly for the first time. Those with FTD freeze mid-transformation and cannot revert back to their original state. Usually, most victims stop at the halfway point, and usually seem both human and both animal. A common example is the mythical harpy, which therianthropes believe are based on avianthropes that suffer from FTD.

Prognosis

The victim is usually in good health, despite their predicament and stress from being half human and half animal. There is a low chance the the victim will experience pains, and an even rarer chance that the victim will die from FTD.

Sequela

Someone suffering from FTD may have their mental health decline very quickly from being ostracized, avoided, feared, attacked, or otherwise because of their appearance. They may also suffer from trauma or from having to experience the pain.

Cultural Reception

Non-therianthropes usually fear and ostracize those that suffer from FTD. While some are good at hiding their condition, others are not so lucky. This has caused therianthropes to create communities for those that have FTD to live in to prevent any attacks from non-therianthropes.
