Bonecrafter

The Bridge Between Death and Art

Bonecrafting is a practice done by trained Bonecrafters. Such crafters must be careful and respectful of their pieces, least they be punished for mishandling and mistreating a piece. As such, Bonecrafters must learn how to carefully respect the spirit of their materials.
Often nicknamed as "The Bridge Between Death and Art," probably because of their respect and belief that the spirit of the once living thing still resides in the bones, the status of a Bonecrafter has taken a more religious and sacred feel, instead of like other art crafts, which have a more emotional, just-for-fun feel.

Career

Qualifications

Skillful hands and respect to the materials are preferred. If one was born in Evening Mill, they'd learn these skills from their parents.

Career Progression

Beginners are often given pieces of wood to work with before they are allowed to work directly with bone. They develop the strong but gentle hands that are important to the craft by slowly bending the wood. Beginners are usually made to make wreaths.
They may also try bending metal rods.

More advanced beginners are gifted their carving tools by another Bonecrafter. These tools are blessed and a celebration is usually held when one receives their tools. On this level, they are shown how to carve symbols and shape their wood into splendid sculptures. Advanced beginners often make sticks with protection wards, staffs, or small, delicately detailed sculptures.

Once deemed worthy by their overseer, the advanced beginner is deemed allowed to work with bone. A private, silent vigil is held, and the newly worthy Bonecrafter learns how to respect their materials.

Payment & Reimbursement

Bonecrafters can be commissioned to build weapons, sculptures, staffs, and small protection trinkets.
Once Bonecrafters have been working for a few years, they can state their prices on their own. Otherwise, the Bonecrafter's overseer sets the price based on size, skill, and time it will take.

Perception

Purpose

Bonecrafting can be used for religious purposes, but the crafters are usually artists.

Social Status

While a common job in particular locations, bonecrafting is seen as a semi-sacred profession to therianthropes.

Operations

Tools

Various carving tools, sandpapers of varying grades, and knives.

Materials

Wood for beginners, and sometimes metal rodes.
Bones, usually of bird, for the advanced Bonecrafters. The type and size of bone usually changes how the craft is done.

Workplace

Bonecrafting can truly be done anywhere, as long as one has their material and tools. However, most prefer a workshop, similar to woodworking.

Provided Services

Bonecrafters can provide art pieces, weapons, small pieces with protection symbols on them, and mild medical assistance, as they are trained to help themselves in the event of any accidents while crafting.

Dangers & Hazards

On the rare occasion, Bonecrafters are hunted for being "witches." However, this hasn't happened for a thousand years, but there have been recordings of attacks on Bonecrafters.
