The Trials of Succession
The Aereni method to choosing a leader. From each group of Prospects, only one may emerge victorious. Each prospect can gather a group of no more than 5 clansmen to assist them. The next Trials occur in late May 1107, and are as follows:
Trial of Speed: Prospects must ascend the Umilan Mountains. Those who cannot reach the summit by the end of the day are eliminated.
Trial of Strength: At midnight, Prospects move from the summit to a mountaintop battleground where they fight a horrific beast. Those who cannot return its hide to the starting line before daybreak are eliminated.
Trial of Will: Until there is one Prospect remaining, a tournament of combat against monsters repeats. The last two remain duel in single combat. Allies may not assist in this Trial.
History
The Trials began as a way for the warring Aereni clans to work out their differences and pick a leader in the most peaceful way possible. Though they feud constantly, all tribes respect the honor of the Trials.
Execution
Each Trial of Succession is broken up into 3 distinct Trials which happen one after another.
Participants
Participants must be nominated by their home tribe. Outsiders are not welcome.
Observance
Every 100 years starting with the founding of the Aereni, a new set of Trials are held.
