Corwin Sobell
Outspoken and charismatic, Corwin is apprentice and heir-apparent to the Grandmaster. She sometimes causes trouble for herself (but mostly for others) with her open criticisms of the government, society, and even her sponsors. Despite the headaches she causes for her handlers, she is wildly popular with most of the public. That (plus the fact that she's everything C2Co would hate losing to) makes them determined to keep her on the path to success, sometimes despite herself.

General Physical Condition
Corwin is unusually athletic for a Wing Cross player, since she works out as stress relief and simply from habit. She jogs early every morning, and does calisthenics almost every evening just before dinner. She also enjoys a variety of other sports, though since becoming a professional Cross player, she doesn't have much opportunity to play them.
Apparel & Accessories
The gossip writers who don't like her tend to report that she dresses "like an old professor, who thinks he is still stylish despite fashion having left him behind decades ago." Her fans, however, say that she dresses "with unique flair; her brilliant personality throwing classic looks into unfamiliar light, and re-creating them in her own image. In ten years, if we are brave enough, we will all dress like Corwin."
Mostly, she just puts on whatever seems fun or unusual to her, without putting any great thought into it.

Personal history
Corwin has been competing at Wing Cross for most of her life. Though she did not show any exceptional promise in the junior tournaments, they gave her extensive experience in handling the pressures of a tournament, dealing with the overbearing "Wing Parents," and in accepting both wins and losses gracefully.
As she moved into the collegiate league, she came into her own. Though she still had far from a perfect record, she showed enough skill (and enough charisma) to break into the pro league. Once she began competing at that level, her abilities seemed to improve rapidly--leading to speculation that she was receiving training from the Grandmaster, or that her prior history was faked as part of some scheme, or even that there was some kind of body double involved. In truth, she was finally taking the game seriously. Of course, playing against better opponents was also better practice, and she was exposed to a wider variety of strategy.
Now, she is a flexible and well-rounded player, and both her successes and the rumors have led to her actually being apprenticed to the Grandmaster himself, expected even to accompany him to the Ascension Tournament.

She has a wide-ranging education, including a College Mastery, of which she uses practically nothing.
Her training at Wing Cross was similarly broad, and somewhat scattershot. She is a very hands-on learner, and had to lose a lot of games to learn how to win them. By now, she claims to have "lost in every way possible," and so will not ever need to lose again.
Also in her favor is that she is one of very few people whom the Grandmaster seems to actually like. Since their introduction several years ago, he has worked with her considerably to hone her skills.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Despite her well-established career and her new apprenticeship, she was still considered "an inconsistent talent" and was not expected to make it to the final four, let alone the last game of her first national tournament. Instead, she faced down her mentor at the final board--and presented a worthy challenge for him. The following year, he declined to enter the National at all, leaving the way clear for her to claim the Master Champion title.
Intellectual Characteristics
Her straightforward nature sometimes gives the impression that Corwin is not very bright. On the contrary, while she is admitted not brilliant, she does have a deft insight for people and social systems. Those who actually listen to her railing against the governments of the world recognize that her arguments have more merit than one might expect from her reputation. She is also a quick and creative thinker, with a natural curiosity that helps her pick apart strategies.
On the other hand, she is not prone to introspection, is not particularly self-aware, and pays little to no attention to the things that do not immediately interest her.

This is exacerbated by her habit of spending freely on friends and good causes--she once famously dedicated a regional championship victory to the local school club, which had come to cheer her on, and handed the entire purse directly to them.
For herself, she feels that she has little use for money. There are always people around who want to take her out to eat, her sponsors pay for travel expenses and lodging, and she would rather wear unique finds from thrift shops than the latest fashion.
