Personal history

Of the many children of King Aethal, his third son would prove to be the most capable, as by the time it was his turn to take the crown, almost all of his brothers had already died in the battlefield in his father's campaigns. 
And even though many expected the Northern Kingdom to melt like snow after Aethal's passing, Aethalred proved himself to be a capable commander, as he squashed the rebellions that arose immediately after his father's death. However, not much can be said of his real abilities as a leader, or what could have been of the kingdom had he lived a longer life, as his reign proved to be a short one when he died from an infected wound.
