The Kingdom of the Middlands
Structure
The kingdom is organized as an autocratic hereditary monarchy, with a handful of marcher lords and minor lords helping the king in the task of managing the realm in the form of the small council. The positions being Lord of the Treasury, Lord Marshal, Lord Justiciar and Lord Chancellor. The council is also joined by the Archbishop of the Middlands.
Culture
Being placed in a junction between all the realms, the kingdom is known as a melting pot of cultures and traditions.
History
Early history and founding
The Kingdom of the Middlands can trace back its roots to the westward clans, as well as the old clans. As it was a peace treaty between two such clans joining as one that would pave the way for an united Middlands. As the new clan would go on and unite the mountain clans under their banner.
Recent years
The story of the Middlands is one of strife and conflict with their neighbors as they try to remain independent. Although this has not always been the case, as both the Westfold and the Grand Principality had made it into a client state more than once. And the Farlanders would go as far as to conquer a significant part of the valleys from them.
Demography and Population
The Kingdom of the Middlands covers an area of 124 thousand square miles, with a total population of 7.4 million people. Of this, 43% (53 thousand sq. miles) is arable land, and 56% (70 thousand sq. miles) is wilderness.
Trade & Transport
Despite its central position in the continent, a journey through the valleys of the kingdom is perilous due to a lack of infrastructure and harassment by the mountain clans.
