Hollymargret

Formerly the largest city in Westlo, the ruins of Hollymargret are found on the left bank of the Armont where it empties into the South Sea.   As the Trapadvisor Guide to Westlo says:
The ruins of the once-great city of Hollymargret are worth making a day-trip to see, especially if one wants also to visit the small fishing town of Neuk and its silver sands. The ruins are extensive and potentially dangerous, so those wishing to visit must pay a nominal sum to an approved guide. At present, the Stonefast Company supplies the touring experience.

History

Hollymargret was built long before the modern era, presumably by the orcs and elves of the Western Forest, although this is not recorded. We do know that humanfolk lived there when they first came to Westlo around 850 years ago, and that there was at least one human Provost of the city: the last one, Provost Sabato. Sabato is an ambiguous figure in the history, but it seems that his actions seemingly led to the destruction of the city without that being, in itself, a bad thing.

Tourism

You can visit the ruins of Hollymargret, but there is a lot of ground to cover, and not all of it is safe. For one, Kobolds have, from time to time, inhabited the ruins, setting up traps. There are also some dangerous animals, and no doubt bandits and outlaws of sentient folk have hideouts in some of the still-standing buildings.   As a result, it is necessary to hire a guide to enter the ruins. Elagabalus Porcaro, the Constable of Neuk, has recently made it a local bylaw making it a criminal offence to trespass in the ruins without the help of a certified guide, and given the contract for security to Stonefast, a local affiliation.   Tourists can enter the ruins for a day trip and receive a guided tour for only 1GP per person. Additional protection can be purchased for 100G, which will guarantee the safety of the party.

Natural Resources

Hollymargret, we may conjecture, was a port town, with a prominent stone harbour. It would have benefitted from being close to the rich Western Forest, and it was surrounded by good farming land, although much of this lies fallow nowadays.
